Newsletter July 2021

Over the past two years, the #LivingSTEM project partners have been working on learning materials, teaching materials and guidelines that teachers, educators, parents and stakeholders can now use for STEM education and education through permaculture activities. We are currently testing and peer reviewing the prepared materials, with a view to finalising them in September and distributing them to all interested parties. In this newsletter we present the results of our hard work. Read it here:

All partners are making active progress in distributing the #livingSTEM resources. A collection of activities to discover agriculture / permaculture and science from a fun perspective. The project offers the following free and open material in seven languages:  LivingStem Manual: framework to develop some activities in collaboration with other actors in the field of Permaculture. Gamification system: 20 Educational games combining the STE(A)M methodology with Permaculture. Deck of Cards Game : 120 cards of seeds, plants and processed commodities such as bread, honey, butter, etc. Each card has information about the properties of the food, its nutrients, and indications on [...]

On Friday 29th of January, EDU lab held the free webinar "Permaculture and STEM Education" from 6pm! We talked about the main contents of the livingSTEM Manual designed mainly for teachers of scientific subjects, with the aim of introducing them to the possibilities offered by the livingSTEM project that combines Permaculture, use of non-formal activities, STEM and gamification. Permaculture is based on three main pillars: Earth Care - People Care - Fair Share - and linking these issues to science subjects is important to make students responsible citizens and motivate them to study STEM. Presentation of the #livingSTEM project in Catalonia (Spain)

On December 3, a presentation of the #livingSTEM project took place. The event was organized by Trànsit Projectes, and educators from various centers throughout Catalonia were invited: CRAEs, UECs, children's and youth spaces in Civic Centers in Barcelona. In total, 24 people interested in activities related to Permaculture and ST (A) M education participated. The reception of the project was very good, and questions and proposals arose around the testing phase of the resources, which will take place from February 2021..

It has just been a year since the #livingSTEM project started. So far we have produced and published: The #livingSTEM Manual It is to give teachers and educators a framework to develop some activities in close collaboration with others in the field of permaculture. This guideline is destined to teachers, facilitators and stakeholders who are or want to be involved in the creation of a cross-sectoral, collaborative scientific learning experience for children. The Italian project partner EDU lab presented the #LivingSTEM project on Wednesday the 14th of October 2020 in Villa Fernandes , Portici (NA), Italy, at 6 pm The event took place in the frame of the Festival for the Sustainable Development with the title: Permaculture & STEM - A new Education to face contemporary Challenges  The #livingSTEM event programme: The project Living STEM Innovating Education to face the new environmental challenges - Gemma La Sita Permaculture, school and education Reconnect the new generations to Nature to have active citizens - Marina Ferrara Living STEM in local schools Innovative tools and activities [...]
